I work as a full time self-employed professional hypnotherapist and counsellor/psychotherapist. I have been providing this full-time therapy service over the Internet for several years and was one of the first to do so using Skype from my old website therapyworld.net. Working online as a therapist was once scorned upon by many therapists and it is still aggressively rejected by some therapists today as a way to provide a therapy service, but over time it is now in my opinion becoming excepted as an important way of providing therapy that has it’s own unique advantages and disadvantages. After one year training in hypnotherapy and two years training in psychotherapy I passed my diplomas and I started providing services aimed at helping and supporting people both online and face to face who needed to find new ways of coping and dealing with difficult aspects of life and personal changes. I have a keen interest in eating disorders such as Anorexia and work with all kind of issues. I also provided support and consultations for a local charity for four years. I have always had a keen interest in how our past propagates into our future life for over 25 years. My training was just one part of my journey towards becoming a therapist, I never forget that I am not superior to anyone, I don’t have all the answers and I only know what I think I understand and like everyone else I am still learning from life. I work as mainly as a Psycho-dynamic therapist but I use elements of gestalt therapy and CBT and hypnotherapy so I have no strict discipline as such and I will try to use whatever works best for the client. The way I work is not that important, there lots of different therapeutic approaches or modalities and some people have a preference for a particular type or style of therapy but for most people it does not matter as long as it works. The most important aspect of any therapy is the quality of the interaction between you and the therapist, if you feel able to talk openly and honestly and feel that you and your thoughts are treated with care and handled respectfully then honesty and openness will follow. I do not see my clients as people who has failed or as being broken, but just someone trying to do the best they can to make the changes they feel are needed or trying to figure out how and what to change in their own way, just trying to cope with life the best way they can. There is nothing wrong with you asking questions or challenging the therapist that is to be encouraged as it promotes your autonomy and builds confidence in your own self-worth. I believe that all therapists must provide a free consultation to allow you to make a choice based on actual experience and not just due to the price or what the advert promises. I can work with you to try and help you take responsibility for you and your life at your pace and a speed that you judge to be correct, I can never promise to help but I can do my best to help with motivation and finding new ways of coping, working together we can try and uncover hidden behaviours and patters of negative thinking, but I cannot take on your responsibility for your life for you, you will always have free choice to make the changes you need when you feel able to make them and not before. Maybe together we can find a better way?
